Orana Wildlife Park Volunteers – Incredible People
Since its inception, Orana Wildlife Park has been extremely fortunate to attract a wonderful variety of people eager to volunteer their skills and time. Being a charitable Trust, volunteers play a key role in the Park's operation. Volunteers primarily assist with visitor services. They help us achieve our conservation advocacy objectives whilst ensuring guests have an enjoyable visit. We also welcome skilled people who wish to volunteer their services to the Park, with a wide range of gardening and light maintenance work available. Overall, volunteering is a challenging, varied and interesting role.
Assistant Volunteers (15-17 years) primarily help our Animal Keepers in the Farmyard with the cleaning and maintenance of enclosures.
Senior Volunteers (18 and over) carry out a range of duties aligned with their own skills and interests. Duties may include:
- Operating our popular 'Safari Shuttle' service, which provides visitors with transportation around the Park, giving an informative and entertaining commentary along the way.
- Leading 'Walkabout Tours' that follow the Park's daily animal feed schedule. This gives visitors a chance to see the animals up close, whilst also giving them the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about some of the world's rarest creatures from our passionate volunteers.
- Gardening, grounds work and light maintenance duties.
- Assisting Animal Keepers with food prep and cleaning.
All volunteers are required to make a commitment of at least two days volunteering per month, for at least 6 months. Full training, plus ongoing assessment and support is provided.
