- Additional Adults Must be included on invoice $18.00pp
NOTE: There is a minimum number of 12 students needed to run our programmes. If your numbers are below 12 students, you will be charged for 12 students.
Before Your Visit
Helpful information for your visit to Zoo School:
Health & Safety
Please make sure that you distribute the Orana Wildlife Park RAMS/RAS form to ALL teachers and adults visiting Zoo School and clarify their role and responsibilities to ensure health and safety measures are met.
Toilets
Toilets are located behind the Information Centre (close to the main entrance), in the middle of the Park (close to the Zoo School) and at the Great Ape Centre. During break times, we encourage students to use the toilets, as once we are underway with our programme we are often quite a distance away from all toilets.
Morning Tea/Lunch Facilities
There is plenty of seating outside the Zoo School building with shade, and seating is also available inside in the case of wet weather. Priestley’s café is open for hot and cold drinks, light meals and snacks from 10.00am.
Safari Shuttles
As these shuttles are heavily used and depended on by the other visitors to Orana Wildlife Park, we are unable to offer a shuttle ride as part of an education programme. If you are self-guiding for any part of your visit you are welcome to use this service however, please ensure that on any given shuttle your ākonga do not take up more than half the seats (10 seats).
Postponement/Cancellation
Must be advised before 7.30am on the morning of your visit. Failure to do so will incur a charge for costs associated with staffing your programme. Our education team will only cancel a visit due to unavoidable circumstances e.g. Park closure due to heavy snow or loss of electricity, illness of our team that means we cannot safely staff your group.
Supervision
Orana is a safety sensitive site, and it is important for the well-being of your students, and our animals that all students aged 15 years and under are fully supervised at all times by teachers, parents or adult members of each visiting group.
On The Day
Orana is set in a large, outdoor location, to help your students have a great day at Orana we recommend they bring:

Entrance to the Park
The Education Team will meet and greet all school groups in the carpark outside the main entrance to Orana Wildlife Park and will escort you into the park., Entrance to the Park
Accessibility & Inclusion
We want students to feel welcome and supported so they can focus on discovering wildlife, learning and enjoying their time at the Park.
Neurodiverse students
Neurodiverse - Our programmes use a wide range of learning techniques that engage different learners. Orana is a large open park setting, giving neurodiverse learners the space to wander, rest or reset during a visit.
Gifted and talented students
Our programmes allow for gifted students to extend themselves through data collection and questioning
Lower ability students
Our hands-on activities limit the amount of writing, leaving more room for questioning for clearer understanding, and our written activities can be completed to varying levels to ensure individual success
Students from diverse cultures
Our programmes highlight animals from many areas of the world, allowing students to connect with the content. As outlined above, our activities have limited written explanations.
Students with mobility needs
Our Park and Zoo School are wheelchair accessible, with mostly flat terrain. We can modify our programmes to support students with mobility requirements. Please contact Zoo School to discuss how we can support you and your students.
